From Scroll to Booking - How Brands Can Tap Into the Travel TikTok Boom

Travel TikToks are taking off — with over 62,000 searches for "travel TikTok" in the past month alone. So, how can brands ride the viral wave?
How can brands jump on the travel trend:
FOOD:
There are over 92 million TikTok posts for “airplane food”, with influencers going viral for sharing ‘what they eat on a plane’. This is the perfect opportunity for a health or nutrition brand to share advice on what to eat when in the air, with many passengers experiencing bloating when flying. Consumers want to know about snack swaps, hydration hacks, and gut-friendly meals so brands get involved!
British TikTok creator @corysworldd has gone viral many times sharing his ‘what I eat on the plane’, with one video hitting over 430k views.

SKINCARE:
Skincare and flying go hand in hand on social media and in the press. UK influencer Kate Elisabeth went viral with 4 million views on TikTok sharing her skincare routine in the plane toilet. She used the clever tactic of rage bait and included the time stamps on her video to pretend she was in the cubicle for 15 minutes.
Travel trending is a perfect opportunity for brands to share skincare and makeup on the go, and educate consumers, as well as jumping on fun trends.

Rise at Seven PR EXAMPLE:
Netflights reacted to viral TikTok of ‘airport theory’, which is arriving at your airport gate 15 minutes before departure. One TikTok user successfully managed the trend in 14 minutes and 57 seconds, however, other TikTok users tried the trend and failed. The trend caused huge conversations on social media, as it was engaging and encouraged many travellers to take part.
We used Google Search data to share searches for “I missed my flight” which skyrocketed by 645% in the past month. We got on New York Post, Indy100, DailyMail, Unilad Tech, and more.
WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT:
The current social trend when it comes to flying is “I'm about to take off, let’s see how many brands can comment by the time I land” - where flyers encourage brands and verified accounts to comment on their TikTok when they're in the air. It’s a clever way to boost engagement on social media videos - but it’s a quick fleeting social media trend. So what can we expect to see next with the trend of travel?
We would love to see:
- Mouth tape is trending. Google searches for ‘mouth tape’ have increased by 160% in the past year showing high demand. The perfect opportunity for a long-haul flight company to get creative with campaigns and social media content.
- Fashion brands. Dad trainers have been viral for years - yet do we still expect air hostesses to be wearing high heels? The perfect press moment would be for Adidas to collaborate with Easy Jet showing how airline staff love wearing their Sambas when on shift!

TRAVEL CLIENT WIN:

Demand for travel is on the rise, with more travel creators and trends appearing each and every day. Google search demand for ‘Travel TikTok’ has increased by 11% in the past year, with continuous increase year on year. Search demand is growing, and it makes for the perfect opportunity to put your clients in the forefront of the conversation.
